In my last post, I mentioned that K2 support for SharePoint 2013 in SharePoint 2010 mode is now available with the K2 blackpearl 4.6.5 update, but that's just part of our SharePoint 2013 story, so I thought I'd provide some more details about what we're working on.
First, I have a question. Has your company already upgraded to SharePoint 2013? Or, are you waiting to take the 2013 plunge? If you're waiting it out a bit, you're definitely not alone. What we're hearing in the marketplace - from analysts, to bloggers, to our own customers - is that, while most companies are planning on upgrading, they're taking their time and coming up with a solid paln to ensure successful migration. In a survey of K2 customers, almost 75% of respondents told us they weren't planning on upgrading for at least six months and, in some cases, not for a year or two. Based on that information, we felt like it made the most sense to deliver our new SharePoint 2013 capabilities in two phases.
Phase 1For existing K2 customers who are migrating to SharePoint 2013, you can now (starting with K2 blackpearl 4.6.5) run your existing K2 applications on a SharePoint 2013 site running in SharePoint 2010 mode. With a few exceptions, your applications will run exactly as they did in SharePoint 2010. More details can be found in the release notes for K2 blackpearl 4.6.5.
Phase 2A new set of K2 integration components will make use of the new SharePoint App framework, resulting in a minimal SharePoint server footprint and availability through the SharePoint App Store. K2 Business Applications for SharePoint 2013 provides a new way of integrating your K2 applications with SharePoint, and includes the following capabilities:
K2 Business Applications for SharePoint 2013 will be out a little later this year, but our Beta program registration is currently open for all existing K2 customers and partners. If you are interested in participating in the Beta program, make sure to sign up on our Beta signup page to receive more detailed information about the included features, as well as early access to the Beta bits when they are made available. If you're not a current K2 customer or partner, make sure to contact us and mention that you're interested in our SharePoint capabilities - we'll connect you with a K2 salesperson in your region to get you more information.
