Today, when digitization is more important than ever before, K2 is continuing to innovate after 20 years of process automati. At this year’s FastFWD Worldwide Virtual Event, we announced new capabilities and features coming to the platform in 2020, so we can help organizations focus on what matters most: their customers.
The 4 innovation themes for 2020
FastFWD included a keynote presentation from Chief Product Officer Burley Kawasaki, “The Future of K2 Software: Today, Tomorrow and Beyond.” The session, now available on-demand, introduced four innovation themes K2 is using to guide its product roadmap for 2020 and beyond.
These innovation themes were derived from the feedback we’ve heard from our customers based on four challenges they have faced while trying to deliver their customers in the way they need to.
- Businesses feel that too much of their investment is tied up in infrastructure. They’d like to spend more of their focus, resources and time on delivering solutions that will advance the business and deliver a superior customer experience.
- They want to improve the user experience through modern digital approaches in order to acquire new customers and increase customer satisfaction.
- Business leaders and IT teams want more flexibility to innovate without being constrained by proprietary technologies, future-proofing their digital efforts.
- Companies want to deliver quickly on business outcomes, spending less time on custom development and more time on enabling solutions.
So, over the next year, we’re investing in innovations that help enable our customers’ journey to the cloud, create digital-first experiences that improve user experience, expand their ability to innovate with ecosystems and community, and deliver quickly on business outcomes with value through solutions.
#1: Journey to the cloud
In his presentation, Burley explained that our first theme, journey to the cloud, is focused on creating flexible paths and guidance to assist customers in accelerating their move to K2 Cloud. We’re investing in several key areas to make this possible:
- Cloud-native enhancements
- A new private cloud offering called “Managed K2”
- Best practices and guidance
- Enhanced connectivity
During FastFWD, Jason Trent, K2’s Group Product Manager for K2 Cloud shared more about each of these innovations and best practices. He highlighted ways we’re helping customers access data from on-prem systems, whether they’ve had K2 on-premises for years or they’re new customers starting in the cloud. #2: Digital-first experiences
Our second theme, centered on digital-first experiences, aims to help K2 customers improve the user experience using modern digital techniques to drive higher levels of customer satisfaction and engagement. As part of this initiative, we’re releasing new features which include:
- Dynamic themes
- Custom controls
- SmartForms SDK
- Progressive Web Apps (PWA)
In her presentation Evolution of K2 SmartForms for Modern Experiences, Codi Kaji, Group Product Manager for Digital-First Experiences at K2, discussed the investments we’re making to allow for better extensibility of the design experience, particularly in K2 Cloud.
#3: Ecosystems & community
Our third set of investments around ecosystems and community is about accelerating your digital innovation by taking advantage of open and standards-based ecosystems add-ons. These include some exciting new releases:
- A new public & private marketplace for components, templates, and connectors
- Workflow steps and events
- Connector SDK
- SmartObject APIs
Mike Talley, Group Product Manager of Ecosystems at K2, reviewed these investments in his FastFWD presentation, Extensibility in the Cloud. While many of these features are also available on-premises, Mike focused on how K2 is helping customers extend K2 Cloud in order to add new functionalities to fit their needs.
#4: Value through solutions
Our final pillar of innovation is around creating value through solutions, allowing you to deliver more rapidly on business outcomes with a modern way of quickly building, configuring, extending, and managing solutions. We’re taking several steps to help improve your time-to-value:
- A new visual app designer
- New application model
- Lifecycle management
- Pre-built solutions
In his session The Future of Applications in K2, Anthony Petro, Principal Product Architect at K2, previewed how these features will change the way customers build K2 apps and end-to-end solutions in the future. K2’s new app model was derived from the desire to help customers build, manage, secure, and share applications more easily than ever before.
During FastFWD, Burley Kawasaki and his team also announced two new pre-built end-to-end solutions around intelligent case management and intelligent document automation that can help you achieve accelerated value through solutions.
During K2 Solution Spotlight: Intelligent Case Management, Burley joined Igor Jericevich, Product Evangelist, for a demonstration of this new end-to-end solution for case management. Register for the on-demand session to learn more about how this intelligent case management solution allows businesses to deliver more rapidly on adaptive case management that aligns with business outcomes.
In our final product session, K2 Solution Spotlight: Intelligent Document Automation, Burley and Graham Penman Principal Technical Specialist, demonstrated a new intelligent solution for document automation. The session included an end-to-end look at the full lifecycle view of documents from initial creation to retirement and storage.
