Athletes are glorified as heroes in the media for how they dispute impossible with feats of great physical strength and ability. But what happens when those athletes fall from grace?
Lance Armstrong is a media sensation stemming from his seven consecutive Tour de France wins, his public battle with testicular cancer that prompted him to start the Lance Armstrong Foundation and more recently accusations against him that he used performance-enhancing drugs.
He has recently admitted that those accusations are true. But he has lost more than his titles, the ability to compete in the sport of professional cycling and his position at the Lance Armstrong Foundation. He has lost the support of his many fans that idealized his accomplishments.
It has yet to be determined if the public will accept Lance Armstrong’s apology. And we want to know, does a misstep by a person thought of as a hero cause you to lose faith in the ideal that person created?
