K2 to support Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and other new Microsoft releases

POSTED DATE: 5/12/2010 3:00:00 PM (GMT)

REDMOND, Wash. – K2, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, announced its software will support Microsoft 2010 releases — including Microsoft® SharePoint® Server 2010, Visual Studio 2010® and the .NET 4 Framework — within the next 90 days.

“We have been working with the SharePoint Server 2010 team, since shortly after the Microsoft Office 2007 release, to ensure K2 can continue to provide great value on top of Microsoft’s next-generation software releases,” said Olaf Wagner, senior vice president for product management at K2. “Within 90 days, K2 customers will be able to upgrade, and we’ll offer tools to make migration seamless.”

K2 blackpearl and K2 blackpoint software (www.k2.com) have long had one of the industry’s most in-depth support programs for the Microsoft Office and SharePoint Server platforms, a primary reason why customers adopt K2 for their workflow needs.

K2 builds on the capabilities of Microsoft SharePoint Server and enables easy creation of workflows and process-driven applications. K2 offers:

  • Multiple graphical process designers to suit any need
  • Simple process lifecycle management
  • Rich reporting capabilities for deep visibility across all processes in the environment
  • Inline Functions, which provide a simple drag-and-drop interface for including complex business logic and calculations into processes without writing code
  • An enterprise-class workflow engine that provides reuse and looping scenarios, delegation and redirection capabilities, and out-of-office functionality
  • Support for new SharePoint Server features such as external lists and Business Connectivity Services

“K2 provides significant benefit to our customers deploying process-based solutions across their SharePoint Server 2010 environments,” said Jared Spataro, Director of Product Management for SharePoint at Microsoft Corp. “K2’s support for SharePoint Server 2010 empowers a broad user base to create rich workflows and process-driven applications in SharePoint Server 2010 — without writing code.”

K2 is also planning significant enhancements to its support for Microsoft Office 2010 client applications. The inclusion of Microsoft’s richer, highly extensible ribbon infrastructure across the entire Microsoft Office and SharePoint Server application stack, as well as other capabilities, make these enhancements possible, intuitive and highly manageable for K2 users, Wagner said.

“K2 sees significant value in the new capabilities of the SharePoint Server 2010 platform — value for us, K2 customers and Microsoft,” said K2’s Dave Marcus, vice president of Global Alliances. “For example, not only can we leverage Business Connectivity Services (BCS) to integrate business data — like K2 process data — into Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Microsoft Office 2010, but because of the new, richer infrastructure, we can leverage BCS’s native support for claims-based authentication on the server and to the client. This is a key value proposition that allows us to take advantage of applications like Microsoft Outlook 2010 and allows us to add new, valuable capabilities to K2 software very easily.”

K2 will be showcasing the capabilities of its planned updates at events and webcasts worldwide. Details can be found at k2.com/events.
